DIARY OF THE BEGINNING OF A SERIAL JIVER : BEGINNERS WORKCLASS PT 1

Well to catch up on where I'm at. I did the extra coaching lesson on the Sunday and boy,it really did help. I'll leave out the part about nearly not finding the place with the (lack of) help from google map.

The lesson was held in a church hall. There were 20 people taking the lesson and the teacher and his dance partner for the day. We started out as I recall having a quick dance, which I danced with Karen the teacher's dance partner. I suddenly forgot all the moves and stood for 5 seconds trying to think what to do. Great start.

But then as soon as I started to dance it all fell into place. It made me feel pretty good to be able to do that, I kind of got a buzz from it.

Then we went onto introductions. I knew three people there as I always dance with them on the thursday dance class. It was kind of fun to see who went to the other two nights. I don't attend these classes because I find that the thursdays night class is a better venue. Cannot complain with air-conditioning can you?

We all made a circle and went round introducing ourselves, how long we had been doing modern jive and why we took it up. The whole group had a laugh at each reason why we took it up which relaxed everybody there.

Then the lesson began.

We each picked a partner to start with then we started with the basics. We were told just to practice moving to the beat first. I had never done that before. I always just danced to my own speed. Always was a rebel.

It's amazing how something as moving to the beat of the music is quite difficult at first. I just lost it after about 20 secs and started again. Found it a lot easier to keep to the beat with a slower record. The music was on a small cd player which was perfect because it was just the right volume. Always find dancing to close to the speakers at Thursday class is off putting.
